Mid-August -- September 2007

Wednesday, August 15th, 7-8 pm:  Lectionary Bible Study: Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost

Old Testament Lesson:    Isaiah 5:  1-7

      Psalm 80:  1-2, 8-19

      Hebrews 11:  29-12:2

      Luke 12:  49-56*

      * We will focus our discussion on the Gospel according to St. Luke.

Sunday, August 19th (following the 10 am Eucharist):  Reflection on the Lessons and the Sermon

Participants from the Wednesday night Bible Study will share their personal reflections on the Gospel lesson from Luke.  They will share a word, phrase or verse that speaks to them in addition to their reflections on the sermon preached by Deacon Charles.  We hope that you will join us downstairs after the service.  Grab a cup of coffee or a glass of lemonade and join us for this presentation and discussion.  Because this will be an open-forum, we invite your questions and reflections as well.  The forum is scheduled for 45 minutes.

Sunday, August 26th:  21st Birthday Celebration for our Organist, Adam Graham

You are invited to a special "Birthday Party" on the occasion of Adam's 21st Birthday on this day.  Adam's party will begin downstairs following the 10 am service, and, yes, he has requested "a cake to die for" (his words) from the Parish's favorite bakery.  Come, celebrate, and join him on his special day!

Sunday, September 2nd:  Welcome Back Reception for Our Rector and His Wife

Father John and Barbara will return to St. Luke's on September 2nd following his sabbatical since May 27th.  We have missed John+ and Barbara's absence from us, and now we can celebrate their return on this Sunday.  John+ will be the celebrant at the 8 and 10 am Eucharist services; Charles+ will be the preacher at 8 am and Rev. Charlotte (The Rev. Bee Billups' sister) will be the guest preacher at 10 am.  Following the 10 am service, a "welcome back" reception will be held downstairs and, yes, a cake from the Parish's favorite bakery.  Please mark your calendar for this special reception for John+ and Barbara.  Let the party begin!

Sunday, September 16th:  Seminar Presented by The Hospice of the Chesapeake

St. Luke's will host a FREE seminar on LIVING WILLS, ADVANCE DIRECTIVES, AND HEALTH CARE POWERS OF ATTORNEY presented by a panel of local experts who will discuss frequently asked questions on these end-of-life issues.  Panelists are Michael J. LaPenta, M.D., Senior Medical Director, Hospice of the Chesapeake and Susan Zuhowski, Attorney, O'Malley, Miles, Nylen & Gilmore, P.A.  You are encouraged to invite family, friends, and neighbors to this free seminar, but registration is required, as space is limited.  You may register on the sign-up sheet that will be posted on the downstairs' bulletin board beside the kitchen or you may register by contacting the Parish Office (410-268-5419).  The seminar will begin at approximately 11:30 am and will last about an hour.  Come with some questions that you would like clarified by the experts.

Peace and love,

Charles+
